Vortex Squad Training
Youth Squad Training Sessions at Vortex: An Overview
Session Times and Location: Vortex's Youth Squad Training Sessions will commence on Tuesday 30th January and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. These sessions take place at the Lancaster Dorrington Road Scout Hut, providing a convenient and familiar location for our young participants.
Trial Period and Competitors License: To get started, we offer a one-month trial period to help students decide whether competing is something that they wish to pursue. Following this, there is a requirement to purchase a £35 Competitors License, valid for a full year. This license is a prerequisite for participating in competitions and represents a commitment to the sport and our training program.
Frequency of Attendance: Students have the flexibility to attend either one or both weekly sessions. This arrangement accommodates different schedules and commitments, allowing students to train at their own pace.
Training Focus: Our training sessions are a mix of pad work, sparring, and a touch of fitness. This combination ensures a comprehensive approach to martial arts, balancing skill development with physical conditioning.
Styles and Competitions: We train our students in various styles, including Kickboxing, Point Sparring, Kicks Only, and Traditional Boxing. This diverse training prepares them for a range of competitions, including major events like the WKO World Championships on 17th August and the WKO British Championships on 10th November. Entry fees for these competitions vary between £35 and £75, depending on the level of the competition.
Equipment Requirements: For training, essential equipment includes a headguard, gumshield, and groinguard. We provide headguards, gloves, and body armor for use during training sessions. However, students are encouraged to gradually acquire their own set of kit for competition purposes. We understand that building a complete set of equipment can be costly, which is why we aim to start competing in August, giving students ample time to prepare.
Building a Competitive Kit: Assembling a personal set of competition gear is an integral part of the journey in martial arts. It allows students to have equipment that fits them well and meets their individual needs. While we provide essential gear for training, having personal equipment is crucial for competing at higher levels. All students who compete will receive a set of competition uniform (t-shirt, pants and hoody) before their first competition for free.
Join the Vortex Youth Squad: Our Youth Squad Training Sessions are designed for young martial artists who are eager to refine their skills, engage in competitions, and be part of a supportive community. We welcome students who are committed to learning and growing in the art of martial arts.
